Mariah married Henry Bozard who was born on February 22, 1858. They most likely married between 1881-1883. Henry Bozard died on March 12, 1895. They had the following known children:
Maggie C. Bozard (14 Mar 1884/23 Nov 1907)
Herbert Clayborn Bozard (Feb 1885/3 May 1946)
Agnes Bozard (Mar 1887/9 Oct 1942)
Benjamin J. Bozard (19 Sep 1890/28 Jul 1963)
Daniel Bozard (Feb 1891)
Henry Clifford Bozard (30 Apr 1894/17 Jun 1963)
Mariah married Augustus Daniel Hinkle, apparently not long after Henry died. The 1900 census states Mariah & AD had been married 5 years (1895) and the 1910 census says 12 years (1898). There is a discrepancy as to the children of Mariah and AD. The 1900 census lists a Mariah, as daughter, age 8/12 (born September 1899). However, there is a daughter Pansey, who was born February 12, 1900. Other than the census record, there is no other documentation or record of this daughter Mariah and she is not at Four Holes Cemetery, whereas, the other three children are. It's possible that Mariah could have been the daughter of 17 year old Maggie Bozard. The known children of AD and Mariah are:
A.D. Hinkle Jr (14 Nov 1898/28 Dec 1898)
Pansey L Hinkle (12 Feb 1900/12 Jun 1901)
Infant Son (b/d Oct 1902)
It appears that AD left the family sometime between 1917 and 1920. On his WW1 draft registration card, he listed Mariah as nearest relative. However in the 1920 census, Mariah is listed as head of house, married, living with some of her children from husband Henry. AD is nowhere to be found in the 1920 census. Since it was against the law to divorce in SC until 1960, apparently AD was still married to Mariah when he married Ida Gix in 1923 in Detroit, Michigan.
Mariah died on December 21,1926, in Middle Twp, Orangeburg County, SC, however, her tombstone says December 22, 1927. Her death certificate says Mrs. Mariah E. Hinkle, age 62, married, and the informant was Clifford Bozard. She died suddenly due to vascular heart disease – most likely a heart attack. She is buried in Four Holes Cemetery, Orangeburg, SC, next to first husband Henry. The infant children of AD and Mariah are also buried in the same plot.
