George Edward Welch, son of John and Ella Welch, was born December 4, 1885 in Cushing. He departed from this life on May 29, 1971 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the age of 85 years.

He attended a rural Cushing school and grew to manhood on the family farm. He chose farming as his occupation and on August 14, 1928 he was united in marriage to Nellie White at St. Paul. The couple continued to farm in the Cushing area until 1940 at which time they moved to a farm in the Elm Creek area. In 1955 the couple retired from the farm and moved to Nampa, Idaho, where Mrs. Welch passed away in December of 1958. After the death of his wife, Mr. Welch made his home with his children until the time of his death.

He has been a resident of Cedar Rapids since 1966. He was a member of the Interdenominational Church of Nampa, Idaho.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Merle (Duane) Richards of Kearney; one son Donald J. Welch of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one step-daughter, Mrs. Marie (Harold) Joseph of Palmer, one stepson, Carl White of Gravity, Iowa and two sisters, Mrs. Ella Bombeck of Shelton and Mrs. Merle Meyers of Kuna, Idaho, fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one son Lawrence, and one sister, Mrs. Tressie Petersen.
