COURIER JOURNAL OBITUARY – 08/16/1926
J. HOFFMANN JR. TAKEN BY DEATH - RETIRED BUSINESS MAN IN EAST END WAS DIRECTOR OF COUNTY FAIR
John Hoffmann Jr., 63 years old, died at his home at 2004 Grinstead Drive at 10:45 o'clock Saturday night [August 14, 1926] after an illness of more than a year. Mr. Hoffmann at one time was treasurer of the Jefferson County Fair, and at the time of his death was a director of the organization. He was a member of the Cherokee Tribe of Red Men, and of the Louisville Chapter of Odd Fellows. For thirty-five years, Mr. Hoffmann was in business at Bardstown Road and Grinstead Drive, retiring about four years ago. Besides his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Hoffmann, he is survived by two sons, Walter Hoffmann and Clinton Hoffmann; two daughters, Mrs. L.C. Miller and Mrs. Charles W. Hebel; a brother, Lawrence Hoffmann, and two sisters, Mrs. Edward Barringer and Mrs. Anna Gruenewald, of Bellville, IL. All of the others live in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at the residence at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, and at 3 o'clock at the Church of the Advent. Burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery.
