Elsie C. Fowler, age 86, of Oxford Junction, Iowa, died Thursday, December 28, 1995 at the Maquoketa Care Center at Maquoketa Iowa, after a short illness.
She was born on April 1, 1909 near Oxford Junction, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Augusta Ahrendsen Petersen.
After attending country school near Oxford Junction, Elsie completed her education in Oxford Junction.
As a young woman, Elsie worked at the Carlton Hotel and at the Stratilek General Store in Oxford Junction. On January 1, 1930 she married Harry "Pat" Fowler at Wyoming, Iowa.
The couple began their married lives farming south of Oxford Junction and farmed in the Oxford Junction area until moving into town in 1958.Elsie and "Pat" managed the Oxford Junction American Legion Club for 4 years. "Pat" died in 1991. Elsie lived in her home until entering the care center on December 20, 1995.
She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church at Oxford Junction, and a lifelong member of the ZCBJ Lodge of Oxford Junction. Elsie's hobbies included gardening, growing flowers and a very large collection of tea pots.
She is survived by two sons, Robert of Oxford Junction and Ronald of Maquoketa, one daughter, Alberta (Mrs. Richard) Wink of Oxford Junction; twelve grandchildren, twenty four great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held 1:30 Sunday afternoon, December 31, 1995 at the Hayden Funeral Home in Oxford Junction. Rev. Donnita Moeller officiated at the
services.
Casket bearers were Steve Wink, Lonnie Wink, Terry Wink, Rick Fowler, Pat Fowler and Jim Fowler. Honorary casket bearers were Danny Fowler, Phillip Fowler, Lynn Lasack and Jim Lasack.
