" The farms of Dallas Bowman and Lawson Lail ajoin in Wittenburg township. These parties have had some trouble and a lawsuit over a division line. Friday, Dallas Bowman and son, Ed., Lawson Lail and son, William, with two daughters, were working on there farms near the disputed line. Lawson Lail and young Bowman got into some trouble, one word bringing on another. The Bowmans were grubbing with mattocks and the Lail's were working corn. Reports recieved are that Lawson Lail advanced on young Bowman with a rock, threatening to kill him, and when a short distance from him threw a rock, which Bowman dodged by falling on his knees on the ground. Lail stooped to get another rock and young Bowman arose with his mattock and before Lail could throw his second rock struck him with the mattock, sinking the axe blade of the mattock into Lail's head killing him instantly.
