Norma J. Hill
Sept. 4, 1931 - Oct. 21, 2001

Norma Jeanne Hill, 70, of Seymour, died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2001, at her home. She had been ill for 10 months.

She was a member of Central Christian Church, Seymour, and had been a secretary. She had lived in Jackson County all her life.

Born September 4, 1931, in Seymour, she was the daughter of Hubert Hart and Virginia Henderson Hart. Her mother survives in Seymour. On November 22, 1951, in Seymour, she married John Hill, who also survives.

Other survivors include two grandchildren, Michelle Hill and Matthew Hill, both of Kentucky; two brothers, Bud Hart, New Jersey,and Donnie Hart, Seymour; a sister, Mary Ann Studenic, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, John Michael Hill and Brian Scott Hill.

The Rev. Luz Maiuri will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Voss and Sons Funeral Service, Voss Chapel, Seymour. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Seymour.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the Central Christian Church Building Fund or Hospice of Jennings County.

Mr. and Mrs. John Melvin Hill To Be at Home Here after Sunday

John Melvin Hill and his bride, the former Miss Norma Jeanne Hart, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Hart, 821 Pershing Street, who are on a wedding trip to to the northern part of the state, will be at home at 729 North Chestnut Street after Sunday.
Mr. Hill is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hill, 319 South Catrer Street.
The couple were married in a quiet but impressive service at 10 o'clock in the morning on Thanksgiving Day by the Rev. Leo Darnell, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene. Only members of the immediate families were present.
The bride wore a smart chocolate brown gabardine suit with golden accessories. Her corsage of gold carnations was tied with brown ribbon.
Miss JoAnn Garvey, the bride's only attendant, wore navy blue with gray accessories and a corsage of rose carnations.
James Johnson served Mr. Hill as best man.
Mrs. Hart attended her daughter's wedding in a beige tweed-effect suit with brown accessories, accented by a white carnation corsage. Mrs. Hill, mother of the bridegroom, chose a steel gray dress with wine accessories and a white carnation corsage.
For the wedding trip the new Mrs. Hill wore a gold jersey dress with a green topper.
Mrs. Hill was graduated in 1949 from Shields High School, where she was a member of the Girls' Athletic Association, Y-Teens, the Commercial Club and the Spanish Club. She served on the staff of The Shields Owl as sports editor, and during her senior year was president of the Seymour Girls' Club. A member of First Baptist Church, she is employed in the office of the Reliance Manufacturing Company.
Mr. Hill, who was also graduated from Shields High School in 1949, was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and track, and was a member of the Letterman's Club. He is a member of the Church of the Nazarene and is employed at the north plant of Arvin Industries, Inc., here.

Norma Jeanne Hart is the daughter of Hubert Grice and Virginia Rose Wayman Hart, one of their four children.

She lived in Seymour all her life and married her childhood sweetheart, John Melvin Hill in Seymour on 23 November 1951.

In the years of their marriage they had two children; John Michael Hill - 27 Sept 1954 and Brian Scott Hill - 11 May 1960. Brian Scott died in Kosair Children's Hospital on 21 Dec 1962 of leukemia and was buried in Riverview Cemetery on Christmas Eve.

Michael lived to adulthood and had two children, but he, too, predeceased his mother. John Michael Hill died 6 Oct 1996 in Louisville, KY and he is buried in Riverview Cemetery beside his uncle Mark Wayne Hill.

Norma had developed cancer and fought it off once before, but in 2001 multiple cancers returned and the chemo had made her so ill, she decided not to take chemo again.

And so Norma was at home, with John in this last year of her life, and died at home on 21 October 2001; 49 years, 10 months and 28 days of her life married to John Melvin Hill.
