OVERBROOK --- Cora "Bernice" Mitchell, 89, Overbrook, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at an Overbrook nursing home.

Mrs. Mitchell had worked for Lawrence Laundry and Dry Cleaners, the University of Kansas Concessions and Lakeview Club House.

She was born April 28, 1910, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Clive Grover and Carrie Bell Rothwell Godfrey. She attended Lawrence schools. She moved to Overbrook from Lawrence in 1970, and then to Highland in 1990, and back to Overbrook in 1997.

Mrs. Mitchell was a former leader of the Meadowlark 4-H Club, a former member of the Lakeview Home Demonstration Unit and a member of the Farmer's Co-op.

She married Chester William Mitchell on May 20, 1929, in Lawrence. He preceded her in death March 10, 1990. A daughter, Jeanete Mitchell, died April 14, 1997.

Survivors include two sons, Chester "Bill" Mitchell and Allen A. Mitchell, both of Overbrook; three daughters, Barbara Davis, Moore, Okla., and Pearl Harman and Delores Statler, both of Lawrence; a brother, Grover Godfrey, Aline, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; 27 great- grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.

Mrs. Mitchell will lie in state after noon today at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence, where visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and sent in care of the funeral home.
