Dr. Peter Constantine Veulemans,my ggg grandfather, was a former Roman Catholic priest and surgeon. He came to U.S. as a missionary and was responsible for bringing a young Fr. Peter de Smet to America. Peter later left the priesthood to marry Kessiah Wadkins.

In 1835, Antwerp, Belgium, Peter, along with many of his aunts and uncles, boarded the Brig Caroline and went to Texas. His aunts and uncles later settled in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana.

While he was a priest, he completed St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church at Queen Anne's County, Maryland in 1827. He later married and settled in Halls, MO.

The family name was changed to Velman by his children. The Louisiana branch uses the Veuleman and the Missouri branch uses Veulemans.

The photo of the church is St. Catherine Catholic Church in Glabbeek Zuurbemde, Belgium where the Veulemans have attended church since the late 1600s. Zuurbemde is about 35 miles east of Brussels.

His son was Henry Constantine Velman who married Elizabeth Singleton. Henry and Elizabeth's daughter was Sarah (Sallie) Elizabeth Velman who married Frances (Frank) Lewis Yeager. My grandmother Effie Yeager Kruta was their daughter.
