Robert was killed when Wabash engine #834 pulling the Champaign branch local passenger train turned over one and one half miles west of Sidney Monday afternoon.

The body of Robert Woodrum who was killed Monday when his engine turned over between Champaign and Sidney was brought to Decatur Monday night and was removed to the Moran & Sons undertaking establishment. Mr. Woodrum was killed instantly, his head and chest being crushed by the tender of the engine which fell on him. His neck and several ribs were broken and he was badly scalded by escaping steam. Mr. Woodrum was widely known in Decatur and had a great many friends. He was a member of Headquarters company One Hundred and Thirtieth Infantry for three years receiving his honorable discharge only a few months ago. He was a corporal in the company at the time of his discharge. Mr. Woodrum was born in Menard county Dec 18, 1899. He had been a resident of Decatur for the last twenty one years. He had been employed by Illinois Central until last June when he took the position of fireman for the Wabash. He is survived by his wife and two children: Mary Jane Woodrum, age two and Nanna E Woodrum, age one year. The family home is at 955 East Henderson street.
