Alice J. Scott, 81, of Auburndale, Fla., former longtime resident of Manhattan, died Sunday evening, April 19, 2009, at the Consulate Health Care Center in Winter Haven, Fla.

Her family provided some of the following information.

She was born June 15, 1927, in Dorrance, the daughter of David A. and Emilie (Heinitz) Steinle.

Mrs. Scott was a cook for USD 383 in Manhattan for seven years and was a homemaker.

On Sept. 27, 1947, in Dorrance, she was united in marriage to Virgil D. "Scotty" Scott. He preceded her in death Dec. 30, 2005.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Landmark of Auburndale, Fla. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Michelle Harris and her husband Guerry, and Lori Matthews-Watt; three great-grandchildren, Delaney and Tabitha Harris and Madison Watt; her brother, Leo Steinle of Alabama; and her sister, Leona Flack of Louisiana. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Clyde Scott and his wife Sylvia of Manhattan, and great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Craig Duane Scott, who died in infancy; an infant daughter; her son-in-law, Barry Landmark; two sisters and six brothers.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Concordia.

The family will receive friends during a visitation from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
