The Rev. Charles Richard Slough departed this life for Heavenly slumber August 8, 2009 in Danville. He was 78.

Born September 16, 1930, in Southbridge, MA, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Mildred (Kimbel) Slough Sr.

He attended Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Grammar School and graduated from Harrisburg Catholic High School Class of 1948. He continued his education at St. Charles College, Catonsville, MD and was in the Class of 1950, then attending St. Charles Seminary in Overbrook, PA, and was with the Class of 1956. He received his bachelor of Arts in 1952.

Reverend Slough was ordained on May 10, 1956, in St. Patrick's Cathedral, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, by Bishop George L. Leech.

He then became the Assistant Pastor of St. Patrick's Church, York, PA from 1956-1958, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Lancaster 1958-1962, Seven Sorrows Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Middletown, 1962-1964, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Mt. Carmel, 1964-1967, Chaplain of Bishop McDevitt High School 1967-1969, St. Peter's Steelton and Holy Family church, Harrisburg 1967-1969

Reverend Slough served as pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Abbottstown (Adams County) from 1969 to 1974 and also served as superintendent of Paradise School in Abbottstown from 1969-1971, and as chaplain at Delone Catholic High School from 1970-1971. Rev. Slough was Assistant Pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Mt. Carmel in 1974-1975, Executive Director of Holy Spirit School, Mt. Carmel, and Area Supervisor of Religious Education 1974, Assistant Pastor St. Peter's, Mt. Carmel 1975-1976, Pastor Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, Elysburg, 1976-2006.

He was Youth chaplain and NODL assistant in the York Deanery, Local Director of Catholic Charities in the Lancaster Office, Director of Christian Education in the Harrisburg Area, and Local Director, Family Life Apostolate in the Conewago Area. he was a member of the Presbyteral Council, 1994-1995.

Rev. Slough retired June 15, 2006, after celebrating his 50th Jubilee as a Priest and 30 years as Pastor of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, at which time he retired to Maria Joseph Manor, Danville.

Even during retirement, Rev. Slough continued to teach religion to the students of Lourdes Regional School and remained passionate about teaching religion throughout his entire life. Rev. Slough was also a huge sports enthusiast.

The Reverend Slough is survived by two brothers and their spouses: Robert and Delores Slough of Delran, NJ, George and Cecelia Slough of Roanoke, VA; one sister, Sister Mary Charlita SND of Chardon, OH, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister Lucille Nachtrab.

Interment was in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg.
