NORTH ANDOVER — Alice Doyle O'Reilly of North Andover, formerly of Andover and Lawrence, died on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009. She was 82.

Born in Lawrence, she lived most of her life in Andover. The daughter of the late Marion Mitchell and Richard A. Doyle, she was a graduate of Lawrence High School, Class of 1944 and Lawrence General School of Nursing, Class of 1947. She went to work at Caritas Christi Holy Family Hospital (then Bon Secours Hospital) on the day it opened in September 1950.

Married to the late Dr. William R. O'Reilly, a well-known and respected pediatrician in the Greater Lawrence area, she worked in his office for many years. Alice continued her affiliation with Holy Family Hospital where she was a member of the Board of Trustees and President of the Caritas Holy Family Hospital Auxiliary. She was instrumental in raising funds to promote the building of the William L. Lane Cancer Management Center. She volunteered at the Center for many years. In 1999 Alice and her husband, Dr. O'Reilly, were awarded Caritas Christi medals for service to Catholic healthcare. The Special Care Nursery at Caritas Christi Holy Family Hospital is dedicated to them.

A member of many civic organizations, she was especially involved with Mary Immaculate Health Care Services, where she served on the Board of Directors and was Chairman of the Board. She was also the first recipient of the St. Marguerite d'Youville Pilgrimage of Love Award from Mary Immaculate, which is given annually for outstanding commitment to community and service.

Alice leaves two sons, William R. O'Reilly Jr. and his wife Elizabeth Ross of Wellesley, Christopher F. O'Reilly and his wife MaryBeth (Ferris) of Andover; and one daughter, Mary-Jo Smith and her husband Ford Smith of Fairfield, Conn.; seven grandchildren, Alissa Smith Schaible of New York, Courtney Smith of Washington, Conor, Kathryn and Allyson O'Reilly of Andover, and Alexander and Samuel O'Reilly of Wellesley, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Judith Elaine and her sister, Marion Doyle Rogoff.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Charles Dewhirst Andover Funeral Home, 33 Pearson St., Andover. A funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 10 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, Andover. The burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery, Andover.
