JEFFERSONVILLE EVENING NEWS OBITUARY – 03/11/1985
Lawrence S. "Doc" Rose, 83, 1427 Old Ford Road, New Albany, died Sunday at Floyd County Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Booneville, Ky., a retired biology and chemistry teacher at New Albany High School, and a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Masonic Lodge 338, and Evansville Hadi Shrine. Survivors include his wife, the former Hazel Miller; two daughters, Mrs. Laura Jackson, Jeffersonville, and Mrs. Barbara Kochert, New Albany; and six grandchildren. Visitation at Seabrook Funeral Home will be after 6 p.m. today. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, New Albany.

Funeral services for Lawrence S. Doc Rose, 83, 1427 Old Ford Road, New Albany, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Seabrook Funeral Home, with burial in Graceland Memorial Park. He died Sunday at Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

NEW ALBANY TRIBUNE OBITUARY – 03/11/1985
Lawrence S. "Doc" Rose, who spent 40 years as a teacher in the New Albany school system, passed away Sunday at Floyd Memorial Hospital. He was 83. A native of Booneville, Ky., Rose taught Biology and Chemistry at New Albany High School from 1931 to 1970 and was head of the Science Department at the school for many years. Rose received his B.S. and M.S. from the University of Louisville and also got a PhD in Bio-Chemistry from the same university. Rose was a long-time member of the Depauw Masonic Lodge, having been initiated in 1923. He was also a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Hazel Miller; two daughters, Laura Jackson of Jeffersonville and Barbara Kochert of New Albany; and six grandchildren. Friends may call at the Seabrook Funeral Home after 6 p.m. today. Masonic services will be at the funeral home tonight at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Seabrook's with burial in Graceland Memorial Park.

His mother was Daisy Deborah Sebastian (Rose), the daughter of James M. Sebastian, and Deborah Adelaide Needham (Sebastian). His grandfather fought in the Civil War for the Union, losing his right leg. He studied law and was appointed Master Commissioner of the Owsley Circuit Court in Kentucky. His grandfather Sebastian is buried at Hogg Cemetery, Owsley County, Kentucky.

His father was William Caywood Rose.
