DEATH OF CONCORDIA'S MOST BELOVED YOUNG LADIES - MISS VERA HOLLIS

Only once in a while an event occurs that is of so distressing a nature as to sadden a whole community with sincerest grief, and when these do occur, they are not easily forgotten. Such is the feelingwith which we record the death of Vera Hollis, one of the brightest and sweetest girls it has been our fortune to know. One week ago today she was in apparently as good health and spirits as usual, but her illness and death overcame her rapidly. Thursday night she was taken violently ill with peritonitis. On Sunday night she was removed to the hospital, where an operation was performed, which, however, had been delayed too long to save her. Nearly all of the physicians in the city put their best skill and knowledge to the case, but it availed nothing. Her death occurred at eleven-thirty o'clock, Tuesday night, with one member of the family at her bedside, her brother Charles, who has scarcely left her side during her illness.
Vera Hollis was born in Cloud county, August 17th, 1886, and died at Concordia, Kansas, Feb. 25, 1908, at the age of twenty-two years, seven months, and eight days. For the past two years, she has been employed at the central office, and was well beloved by all of her associates there. Her parents, four brothers, and three sisters, are left to mourn her early death. They are Mr. and Mrs. Daniel P. Hollis,Frank, Elmer, Leander, all of Victor, Kansas. Charles, Mrs. Verna Dotson, Beatrice and Blanch, of this city.
