Francis Benjamin was the third child of eight of John C. Simpson and Jane Coulson. He was raised on his father's farm in Lane County, Oregon. As an adult he had his own farm in Marion County, near Jefferson. He married Nellie Beckwith in 1898. They had two children, Jenks and Hattie, and two granddaughters. His obituary was published in the Capital Journal 8 Feb 1943.
