John's middle name was given as Edwin on his death certificate. That is incorrect because he signed his name as John Edward Simpson on the WWI Draft card.
In 1898 John married Ida B. (Zumwalt?). They had no children. They lived in Eugene at 161 17th Av. W for over 20 years. He worked for many years for the Eugene Mill and Elevator Co., as a teamster and miller. Later he milled flour in his home. Ida died in 1922.
John was an invalid for seven years before his death, and he lived with his brother, Francis Benjamin near Jefferson in Marion County. He was found dead at home and probably died of myocarditis. His obituary was published in the Jefferson Review on 19 Oct 1934 and in the Oregonian.
