"On Thursday, Jan. 23d, occurred the death of James Avery Newton, at his home in Milford, aged 67 years. He had been sick about six weeks, and his death was not unexpected; he passed peacefully away, surrounded by his family. He was a man of strictest moral character, and by the integrity of his life commanded the respect and confidence of all with whom he came in contact. He leaves a wife and two daughters to mourn the loss of a kind, faithful husband and father. The community in which he resided loses an upright and respected citizen and kind neighbor. For upwards of forty years Mr. Newton had been a subscriber to the Journal, which he highly prized as his favorite newspaper. He was laid to rest in the Westville cemetery."
