He was captured at Appomattox on April 3, 1865, and was a Prisoner of War at Point Lookout, Maryland. He was released at Point Lookout on June 14, 1865 after signing an Oath of Allegiance to the United States. His place of residence was given as Henry County, Alabama, and he was described as fair complexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, and 5 feet 9 3/4 inches tall.=
