MY MATERNAL GREAT GRANDFATHER
When great Grandfather "George W* Steele" was born on October 1, 1854, in Paterson, Passaic county, New Jersey, his father, John Steele, was 33 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 19. He married Georgina Folsom Christie in 1884 when George was age 30 and his wife Georgina was 25 years old. They had six children during their marriage: Georgina Steele (my maternal grandmother), Emma Steele, Alice Steele, George Truman Steele, Hazel Steele, and Mary Steele.

My great grandfather George W* Steele owned and operated a very successful manufacturing business that made window frames, doors, and furniture that despite the 1929 Stock Market Crash and the resulting Great Depression, continued to thrive. Among other employees, both his daughter Georgina Steele (my future grandmother) and his son George Truman Steele were bookkeeper in my great Grandpa George W Steele's company. In addition to this company, my great grandpa invested in the new silk industry in Paterson NJ, and I believe invented and patented several silk industry improvements.

George W Steele went home to Heaven to be with his beloved wife (predeceased by 14 years) and Our LORD Jesus on December 6, 1942 (at age 88) in Passaic, New Jersey, at the age of 88 and is buried -- with his loving wife Georgina of 44 years -- here in Laurel Grove Memorial Park located in Totowa, Passaic county, New Jersey, USA.

My mother was Georgina Mae Van Duren nee Critchley (1919-1997), and my maternal Grandma was Georgina Critchley nee Steele (daughter of George W Steele). My mother married my father William "Bill" Van Duren (1919-2003) October 8, 1945. I have a sister Jacquie (Van Duren) Simmons living in Florida.
