Margaret Jane was born in Kentucky to Wesley and Elizabeth Wells who were also natives of the "Blue Grass State." At age 21 she became the wife of William Perry McKeehan, Civil War Veteran. The couple married Jul 25 1867 in Whitley County and over the years added issue of 11 to the McKeehan population of S.E. Kentucky.

Like most of the McKeehan of the time, Perry was a Farmer and felt quite blessed to have 9 sons under his roof who would train to be farmers while helping Dad on the family farm. Mom could also look forward to help with the household chores upon the arrival of 2 darling daughters. The couple celebrated 42 years of Marriage in 1909, the year Margaret died. As a Mother she was blessed in that 10 of her 11 children grew into adulthood and had families of they own.

I'm pretty happy about that too, since one of those children is my Grandfather.

Inscription

from headstone of Margaret J. McKeehan (1846-1909)
"A precious one from us
is gone.
A voice we loved is stilled
A place is vacant in our
home,
which never can be filled.
God in his wisdom has
recalled,
The boon his love has
given.
And though the body
slumbers here,
The soul is safe in heaven."
