The subject of this notice was born in Perry county (sic) and came to this county about 40 years ago and married a daughter of the late Martin Wertz (sic); he purchased a portion of the large Mansion farm, and erected buildings and resided there up to his death, about 33 years. He was the father of twelve children, four have preceded him to the spirit world, eight are yet living; six in attendance at his funeral, the two oldest being in Decatur, Ill., a son and daughter, and hence not present. His wife has also preceded him about 13 years; of the children living three are married and five single; he was a member of the German Baptist church for about 30 years and for the last 18 years one of its ministers; he was a worthy example of piety, respected and beloved by all. His funeral was very largely attended. The children have lost a kind and loving father and the community a noble citizen. "Peace to his ashes". Rev. Garver officiated. Text 2 Timothy, 4:7 and 8.
