Clay KEPLEY was the first child of Mary (GAULT) and King KEPLEY.

On 17 Dec 1891, Clay and Doskie FITCH were married at Strafford, Greene Co., MO. They had a daughter Georgie KEPLEY in 1893 but then Doskie passed away the next year. Since Clay's parents still had a two year old daughter, Jessie, living at home and it was tough for a farmer to raise a child by himself, Georgie was raised by her Kepley grandparents as a "sister" to Jessie.

Two years after Doskie's death, on 13 Sep 1896, Clay married Lillie Edith BASS at the bride's house near Fair Grove, Greene Co., MO (probably near Bassville). Clay and Edith had eight children, Alabama, Homer, Lois, Lonnie, Eunice, Belva June, Nova, and Virginia. Except for Homer, who died as an infant, the children all lived to adulthood and the six sisters lived to be at least 83 years old; a fact that Virginia told me she was very proud of!

Clay was a farmer, gas station owner, and post master in the Fair Grove area. He passed away in a nursing home in Laclede Co., MO near his daughters Alabama BLAIR and Lois WATSON who lived in Camden Co., MO.
