SPICER, Claude Cover, 88, of Narrows, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born May 10, 1916, and was the son of the late Harvey "Uncle Bud" Spicer & Rosie Martin Spicer. In addition to his mother & father, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Hester Payne Spicer; and two daughters, Bonnie Ellen Stables and Valerie Darlene Spicer. His remaining loved ones include four daughters, Rosie Lauver of Norfolk, Patricia & Ray Sexton, Sandra Malenson, and Debra Spicer, all of Narrows; 12 grandchildren, Mike Stables, Sharon Sexton, Rhonda Thornton, Randy Blankenship, Tony Blankenship, Brian Blankenship and Dana Fitts, all of Narrows, Wilma Sparks, David Dewayne Stables of Suffolk, Danial Lauver, Jr. of Smithfield, Va., Diane Hendricks, and Deanna Mitchell of Florida; 12 greatgrandchildren, Megan Boyce, Rebecca and Debbie Lee Thornton, Aaron, Zachary, Devon and Dustin Blankenship, all of Giles County, Jeffery Lauver and Daniel Sparks of Suffolk, Kelly Mitchell of Chesapeake, and Troy and Jesse Alexander of Florida. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with Rev. Bill Brown and Tommy Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. The family requests that those sending memorial contributions, please consider the American Cancer Society.
