Richard (Sibertse) Severson. Also known as Dirck or Derick Severson. Born abt 1755 Coxsackie, Greene County, NY. Died 21 May 1843. Married Isabel Mills. Father Nicholas (Sibertse) Severson (born 26 July 1706 Kinderhook, NY; died 21 Oct 1775 Severson Farm: Mother Elizabeth Van Der Kar (born 14 Oct 1711, Catskill, Greene County, NY). Children of Richard Severson and Isabel Mills: 1) Nicholas Severson (b. 1782 Cosxsackie) 2) Jannetje Severson (b. 1784 Coxsackie) 3) Elizabeth Severson (b 1787 Coxsackie). Richard Severson served as a private in the Eleventh Regiment of the Albany Militia (Coxsackie and Groote Imbocht), First Company. The Albany County Commission, on 3 May 1775 resolved to raise troops for the defense of the Colonies, on 4 May 1775 appointed the following officers subject to the approval of the Provincial Congress: First Regiment commander Capt. Thomas Hooghteeling. Eleventh Regiment commander: Colonel Anthony Von Bergen; Lt. Col.: Cornelius DuBois; Major: Ignatius Van Orden. Colonel Jonas Bronk provided testimony to the Committee on Revolutionary Pensions that he knew that Richard Severson was at the battle of Stillwater and Saratoga 17 October 1777 and at the taking of the surrender of British General John Burgoyne.
