Eldon Railroader
Dies At His Home
Eldon – Harvey C. Black, 71, died at his home in Eldon at 7:55 a.m. today after being in poor health two and one-half years.
He had been a section foreman on the Rock Island railroad for 30 years and had been employed by the railroad for a total of 49 years.
He was a member of the Baptist church at Eldon since he was 21 years old and was clerk on the Modern Woodmen camp at Eldon for 20 years. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Gonterman.
He is survived by his wife, eight children, Ralph E. of Ottumwa, Oscar C. and Jay Lloyd of Cedar Rapids, John Kinzie Black of Fairfield, Joseph J. Black of Eldon; Mrs. Alta Hull of Eldon, Mrs. Gladys Reno of Agency and Mrs. Goldie Strunk of Eldon; three brothers, two sisters, 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two children preceded him in death.
Funeral Services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Campbell funeral home in Eldon in charge of the Rev. E. M. Gregson. Burial will be in the Eldon cemetery. The body will be taken to the Black home Wednesday at 2 p.m. and will be returned to the Campbell funeral home Thursday.
