John F. Kostelecky was born January 20, 1925 in Dickinson, ND to Albina Mehuly and Yaroslav (Jerry ) Kostelecky. He attended Dickinson public grade school and Dickinson High School. In 1942 he joined the US Navy and was a member of the underwater demoliton team in WWII. He served aboard a sub-chaser in the Atlantic. During his hitch in the US Navy he took several special courses and attended machinists school. After the war he went to work for Montana Dakota Utilities as an electric linecrew ground man. He subsequently became a journeyman lineman and was transferred to Bismarck, ND as line forman in 1953. He was promoted to junior engeneer in 1956 and in September 1966 he became electric superintendent for the Miles City, MT division, and transferred to Miles City, MT. In 1978 he retired from Montana Dakota Utilities and returned to Bismarck. He continued to work for several years as a draftsman. Over the years John enjoyed hunting, fishing and flying model airplanes tht he built. He was an avid reader, especially on WWII, and anything else about historical events, Custer, Civil War, WWI, and Zane Gray westerns On September 1, 1993 he was killed in a car/pedestrian accident in Yakima, WA. He was the fourth of eight children and he was preceeded in death by his parents, his step father Frank Rose Ridl, his brother Wayne,and his brother-in-law Joe Boespflug .
