Phyllis LaVern Steffenhagen Skinner passed away at her home in Logan, Utah, May 20, 2004. LaVern was born March 11, 1916, in her family home in Logan, Utah to Karl Albert Steffenhagen and Sarah Ann Christiansen.

LaVern was preceded in death by her four siblings, Agnes Merrill, Violet Skinner, Arnold Steffenhagen, and Leora Galloway.

LaVern was very blessed with three families in her lifetime. She married Grant LeRoy Wallentine on September 24, 1934. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. Grant was killed in a mining accident in 1955. This marriage brought forth one daughter, Lynette (James) Takane of Logan, Utah, who gave them four grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.

LaVern married John Ersel Swainston of Whitney, Idaho, March 21, 1957. He preceded her in death. Her life was filled with an extended family of four children and numerous grandchildren.

She later married Halver Morgan Skinner who also predeceased her. She was blessed with the love of Halver's family of five children, 26 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 3 great- great-grandchildren.

LaVern was extremely talented. She loved to quilt, crochet, and do many kinds of handiwork. She also loved her flowers and her gardens and her strawberry jam was a coveted gift. Many friends and family members have been blessed by her talents.

She was a tireless temple worker. Even her extended illness did not keep her away. Her years of effort and dedication have been an example to her family and friends.

LaVern will be remembered well for her courage, her work ethic, her integrity, her sense of humor and most of all for her unconditional love for her family and the Lord. Her life is a legacy to her family.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the IHC Hospice Staff for their tender care.

Funeral services will be held at 112:00 Noon on Saturday, May 29, 2004, at the Allen-Cranney Mortuary Chapel, 420 East 1800 North, North Logan. (753-3049), with Bishop K. Craig Loosle conducting. Family are invited to meet at 10:00 a.m. for a private family viewing. Friends are invited to greet the family at 11:00 until 11:50 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
