He died 19 March 1926 in the Spokane, WA Sacred Heart Hospital. He married Katherine Beck 4 July 1913 in Spokane, WA. She was born 7 April 1886 and died 16 November 1968. They had 8 children; Herman, Ervin C., Ernest, Cecil, John William, Rudolph, Ruth, and Betty.
During World War II John joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific Theatre.
He married Verle Jane Spilker 20 June 1948 Davenport, Lincoln County, WA.
He was a member of the Acacia Lodge F & AM #58 in Davenport, WA; VFW in Odessa, WA and the Harrington Community Church.
His funeral was held in the Harrington Community Church.
