RODDY, VALMOND HENRY
A loving father and grandfather, he went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at his residence. He was 80 years old and a longtime resident of Galvez. Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday. Religious service at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Galvez, at noon Friday, conducted by the Rev. Charles Marceaux. Burial in church cemetery. Valmond was born at home on March 4, 1923, to the parents of Desmond and Ellen Roddy of Galvez. He had three brothers, George, J.T. and Berlin, and four sisters, Lucille Dixon, Mary Roddy, Violet Villar and Parelee Thibedaux. Valmond served the war efforts as a welder in the shipyards in Portland, Ore., from 1942 to 1944, where he met and married Blanche Dent. To this marriage, seven children were born, Dave, Ronald, Bobby, Alan, Larry, Christyle and Valerie. Later they moved to Gunnison, Colo., where he worked in the coal mines until moving his family to Galvez in 1953. Valmond worked construction as a millwright and pipe welder until retiring in 1981. While spending time with his horses, Valmond started a successful mobile home park. Valmond is survived by his estranged wife, Blanche Roddy; beloved friend, Nita Territo; sons, Dave and and wife Mary Roddy of Victor, N.Y., Bobby and wife Susie Roddy of Castle Rock, Colo., and Alan and wife Judy Roddy of Auburn, Maine; two daughters, Christyle and husband Mederic Lemenager, and Valerie and husband Ray Mullins, all of Denham Springs. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, George Roddy; two sisters, Lucille Dixon, and Parelee and husband Jeff Thibodeaux; and a stepbrother, Stanley and wife Gwen Dixon. Preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and Larry Roddy; a granddaughter, Maca Roddy; parents, Desmond and Ellen Roddy; two brothers, Berlin and J.T. Roddy; and two sisters, Violet Villar and Mary Roddy. Pallbearers will be Dave, Bobby, Allan and Taff Roddy, Justin Mullins and Sierra Dillon. Honorary pallbearers are Madrid Roddy, Kyle Roddy, Jimmy Burns, Dana Guitreau, Ray Mullins and Medric Lemenager. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge. Ourso Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
