Thomas R. Dowdy
WALTHAM Thomas R. Dowdy, of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Waltham, died suddenly at the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, Saturday August 1, 2009. He was 49. Mr. Dowdy was a 1978 graduate of Waltham High School and a graduate of Elmira College in New York. He was the captain of both his High School and College Hockey teams and was highly sought after by many NHL Scouts until injuries ended his hockey career. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following all of the local teams. Tom held several different jobs including correction officer, private investigator, construction worker, restaurateur, and most recently recreation director at a resort hotel in Florida. Mr. Dowdy was the son of the late Floyd T. Dowdy and brother of the late Waltham Police Officer Robert Dowdy. He is survived by his loving mother Dominica (Delfino) Dowdy of Waltham, his devoted companion Cindy DeDecko of Fort Myers, his brothers Stephen Dowdy of Tyngsborough, and Paul Dowdy and his wife Laura (Mahoney) of Framingham, and his sister Gale Maloney and her husband Michael of Bellingham. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Thomas life will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham. Interment will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held at the Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, Waltham (www.brascofuneralhome.com) prior to the Mass from 9-10:30 a.m. Relatives and friend are respectfully invited to attend. Parking attendants will be on duty.
