Mary J. Swift Bates, 92, of Campbell, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 15. 2004, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Born May 10, 1911, at Sligo, Mo., daughter of the late John Wesley and Pearl Sarah Bridgeman Gamblin, she attended First Assembly of
God in Campbell.
On Oct. 26, 1927, in Alton, Mo., she married Lewis Russell Swift who preceded her in death. She later married Perry Bates, who also preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Louie Swift and Jessie Swift; three brothers, Emmett Gamblin, Joe Gamblin and Bill Gamblin; one grandson, one granddaughter and one great-grandson.
Surviving are three daughters, Sarah Hanger and husband, Junior, of Mansfield, Mo., Mary Magdalene Smith of Campbell, and Betty Boone of Fayetteville, Ark.; four sons, Tommy Swift and wife, Patricia, of Kennett, Dennis Swift and wife, Ilene, of Fairdealing, Mo., Jerry Swift of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and Billy Swift and wife, Billie Ann, of Campbell; one sister, Sadie Allen, of Campbell; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Sunday, Jan. 18, at Landess Funeral Chapel at Campbell.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at Landess Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Luther Crane officiating. Burial will be in Bardley Cemetery at Bardley, Mo. Daily Dunklin Democrat: Kennett, Missouri • Sunday, January 18, 2004
