Melvin R. Rees
Melvin R. Rees, 62, 4319 Twilight Drive, died Monday, Jan. 7, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Rees was a heavy equipment operator. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in Europe.
He was born Jan. 12, 1922, at Talmage, the son of Harry R. and Florence Felk Rees and was graduated from Chapman High School He lived in Topeka more than 36 years.
Mr. Rees was a member of Operating Engineers Local Union No. 101 in Topeka. He also was a member of the Meriden Antique Gas Engine and Threshers Association, McLouth Gas and Steam Engine Association, Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Inc., Golden Spokes Antique Car Club, and Antique Automobile Club of America.
He was married to Olinda Kandt Nov. 6, 1965, at Herington. She survives.
Other survivors include a step-daughter, Mrs. Cynthia Simpson, Glendale, Calif.; six sisters, Mrs. Lila Zimmerman, Topeka, Mrs. Etta Rader, Durham, Mrs. Alma Sexton, Abilene, Mrs. Norma Grapes, Hesperia, Calif., Mrs. Edith Sanders, Princeton, W.VA., and Mrs. Avis Rader, Prescott, Ariz.; four brothers, Harry Milton Rees and Loyal Rees, both of Topeka, Verle Dean Rees, Smolan, and Marvin Rees, Olathe; and a step-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington.
