Enlisted in the Confederate Army (4 July 1861)
Chickamauga, Walker, Georgia, USA Enlisted with his younger brother James Anderson. Company B,26th Regiment of the Tennessee Confederate Infantry. Shortly after enlisting Fort Donelson was surrendered and Joe was captured and exchanged at Vicksburg. He immediately resumed active duty.
Wounded in the Battle of Atlanta (29 July 1864)
While serving with First Confederate Regiment of Georgia Volunteers. He was wounded a second time in the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee at which time he was captured and imprisoned at Fort Douglas, Illinois.
At the conclusion of the War, Joe went to work with the railroad.
