An old solider of the war of 1812. He came west after being mustered out of the service and took up his title to a land grant in PawPaw Grove, Illinois. Those who knew Nathaniel Allen will remember his recital of his trip west, and of his aversion to the "mud flats", where Chicago now stands.

s/o Thomas Allen and Abigail Brown; married 16 Jun 1817 to Mary 'Polly' Tinkham born 27 Aug 1793 died May 1861 buried Lee Co., ILL. They had ten children all except the eldest were born in Buckfield, Oxford ME. John, the eldest child, was born in New Glochester, Cumberland, ME.
