HILLSBOROUGH - Mr. John Lewis Beck, Jr., 77, 415 Mitchell Street, died Sunday, August 16, 2009. He was a decorated Korean War veteran from the Navy, and served on the air craft carrier USS Rendova from 1950-1954. He was a member of the Hillsborough Exchange Club for many years. He was a Boy Scout leader. Mr. Beck was a member of First Baptist Church for 42 years where he was a Deacon, a Sunday school teacher, member of the choir, and taught the Royal Ambassadors. He is remembered as a great loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Surviving are his wife, Sue Apple Beck; two sons: Paul Lewis Beck, Hillsborough, and John Kevin Beck, Durham; one daughter, Pamela Beck Schaub, Hillsborough; eight grandchildren: Patricia Harris Heiderscheit, William Dale Harris, Patrick Todd Harris, Collin Lewis Beck, Stephanie Nicole Harris, Megan Sue Schaub, Danielle Lynne Schaub, Jackson Henry Beck; five great grandchildren: Gabriel Thomas Heiderscheit, Layney Morgan Harris, Margaret Ann Heiderscheit, Ava Caroline Heiderscheit, and William Grey Harris; and one brother, David Lane Beck, Charlotte. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church by the Rev. Randy Carter. Burial will be in the Hillsborough Town Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, at the family home at 415 Mitchell Street. in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215-3220 or to First Baptist Church Building Fund.
