Z. D. "Uncle Zack" Phillips, who would have been 91 years old next Wednesday, died Sunday afternoon in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ada Durham, 10 miles west of Woodville, where he had resided several years. Funeral services and burial were conducted in Spurger.Mr. Phillips came to Tyler county from Georgia when a boy and spent most of his life as a farmer. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist church.
He is survived by three sons:
P. B. Phillips of Chester,
A. J. Phillips of Kirbyville and
Dennis Phillips of Silsbee;
two daughters,
Mrs. Durham and
Mrs. Ida Kelly of Brookeland;
135 grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great-grand-children."
His full name was Zackariah Daniel Phillips. His first wife was named Sallie. His second wife was Sarah Raner who was born in Miss. His parents were: John and Elizabeth from George. His brothers were: Burrel (who married Permelia), William J, Enoch. His sisters were: E., P., Mary M.. His children were: Ida Mae (who married Ronald B. Kelly), Gadcy, Mary E. John B., William B. Elizabeth P.,Zachariah D. (b. 1875), and Lucinda B., Ada, Andrew, Dennis. (He was listed in the 1900 Tyler county census)
