MERCER , Mary (Folk) September 12, 1906 - June 1, 2009 It is with fond memories and grateful hearts we announce that after a long and well lived life, our Mother is now at rest in her spiritual home. Mary was born in Leipsic, Ohio and immigrated with her family to Carmangay, Alberta in 1910. She attended Calgary Normal School and came to teach in Strathmore in 1927. Here she met her future husband, Walter Mercer and they were married in 1939. They farmed in the Nightingale district and raised three children. Mary was always very generous with her musical talents and maintained a very active role in church and community life. She was predeceased by her husband Walter (1954), son Charles (1999), and daughter Barbara (2007). Mary is survived by her daughter Lynne (Lorne) Fair of Strathmore; daughter-in-law Lucille Mercer of Calgary; grandsons Dale Mercer of London, England and Paul (Brenda) Mercer of Calgary; great-grandson Tristan Mercer. If you met Mary once, you would be touched by her forever. Come celebrate her life with us on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Strathmore United Church at 2:00 p.m. To honour Mary, please perform a random act of kindness, show someone you love how much you care, or give a donation in her memory to the Strathmore District Health Services Auxiliary (200 Brent Boulevard, Strathmore, T1P 1J9) or the Strathmore United Church (410 - 4 Street, Strathmore, T1P 1B4).
