***My First Great Grandfather***
Note: Cannot find Clinton Township, Texas County, Missouri, the place of Reuben's birth, on present day maps. However, there was such a place for the 1860 Federal census. It shows Reuben with his parents John and Martha, and 9 siblings there on 28 June, 1860. His wife Martha's parents, REUBEN and MAHALA HUNTER, are on the same census. On the 1870 census, the family is in Pawnee County, Nebraska, but in 1900, Reuben is married to Rosa and they have 8 children. Their first child, Clarence, is not there as he had left home by then. Cannot find them on the 1880 census. (The 1890 census was destroyed in a court house fire).
There is some confusion on the spelling of his first name. Some sources say Ruben, others say Reuben, and still others say Rubin. There is even the spelling Rheuben on his grave marker. May never know the real name.
