Frank B. Ehmke, age 78, resident of Brainerd, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at St. Joseph's Medical Center. Frank was born Nov. 19, 1928, in Winfield, Kan., to Carl Earl and Lelia Maye (Thomas) Ehmke. He grew up in Oklahoma and moved to Minnesota in 1944. He married Lois DeRosier in 1949. Frank served in the U.S. Army in Army Security, enlisting in 1947. He retired in 1990 after 45 years at Potlatch. He had worked as a fire marshal at Potlatch the last years before retiring. His memberships included charter member of Oak Street Chapel, Moose Lodge, Eagles Club and St. Mathias Breakfast Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, horseshoe and casino enthusiast.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; children, Carolyn (Julian "Chip") Avelsgaard, Connie (Brad) Tisdell, Steven Ehmke, Patti (Mike) Velasco, Robbi (Scott) Berry, all of Brainerd; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson; brothers and sisters, May Frisch, of Brainerd, Virginia Schroeder, Gary Rice and Judy Weaver, all of Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by one daughter; three grandchildren; and his parents.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at the Oak Street Chapel, 523 S.E. 11th St., Brainerd, with the Rev. Chip Avelsgaard officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and at the church Wednesday the hour before services.
