Mary 'Betty' Barnard
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Mary E. 'Betty' Barnard, 89, Muscatine, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at Riverbend Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Graveside services are 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Pamela Saturnia will officiate.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, 2907 Mulberry Ave. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Barnard was born on Aug. 13, 1915, in Mercer County, Ill., the daughter of William H. 'Jim' and H. Irma Jackson Keating. She married G. Fenton Barnard on Dec. 25, 1939. He preceded her in death on March 13, 1986.
She had been a resident of the Muscatine area since 1950.
She was a graduate of Muscatine High School and the University of Iowa where she was a sister in the Kappa Alpha Theta.
She and her husband owned and operated the Barnard's Jewelry Store from 1950-1961.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and did volunteer work at Muscatine General Hospital. She enjoyed playing bridge, her grandchildren and family traditions.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Burmeister Ameche of Iowa City and Julia Carver Thorne and husband, Richard, of Muscatine; grandchildren, Anne Burmeister Bassett of Providence, R.I., Paul Burmeister of Philadelphia, Pa., Roy Carver III of Muscatine and Andrew Carver of Chicago, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, William J. Keating.
