Obituary:

Dennis Norwood Bailey, 85, of Kilmarnock died August 1, 2009.
Mr. Bailey was born September 9, 1923, in Everetts, N. C. and raised in Everetts and Williamston, N. C. He also was a Virginia Beach resident for some years before retiring in the Northern Neck.
He served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 and worked at the Naval Air Station from 1946 to 1978. He joined the Air Force Reserves, served 23 years, and retired from the reserves as a member of the OSI unit. He served in Korea April 1951 to September 1952. He served 35 years in civil service which took him to the Philippines as a director of public works from 1970 to 1976. In 1976, he obtained a real estate license and later a broker's license, managing several firms in Virginia Beach before becoming a licensed real estate appraiser and opening his own frim, Dennis Bailey & Associates in Virginia Beach.
He was a member of the Norview Masonic Lodge 113 in Norfolk for 58 years. He was a member of Kilmarnock Baptist Church, the Aeronautical Society, and was a licensed pilot since 1947.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Sue Margaret Keeter Bailey of Merry Hill, N. C.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Harmon Enders-Bailey of Kilmarnock; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Bailey Bright and Winnie Bailey Lewis Huber, both of Greenville, N. C.; two sisters, Blanche A. Bailey Cox and Patricia L. Bailey Sullivan; four grandchildren, Dennise Bright Cox of Charlotte, N. C., Morgan Bright Herr, Kerry Lewis, both of Richmond, and Travis Bright of Greenville, N. C.; a niece, Diane Sillivan of Virginia Beach; a nephew, Thomas Cox of Roanoke; three great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Cox of Charlotte, N. C., Mason and Emerson Herr, both of Richmond.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 14, at 3 p.m. at Kilmarnock Baptist Church. Interment will be private. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 13, at the Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock with a Masonic Memorial Service at 8 p.m.
