He was born on his parent's farm and was a lifelong farmer and resident of North Beaver township. He married Jane Allsworth on June 28, 1836. They had five children (three daughters and two sons). The children of their daughter, Margaret, reported many happy memories of days spent with their Fullerton grandparents. Alexander was a kindly, genial man who loved children. The grandchildren could remember exciting days when the sap was running freely and maple syrup and sugar were being made in the maple grove. There was always an ample supply throughout the year to give visiting grandchildren some "sweets", usually a goose eggshell filled with maple syrup. Maple syrup was always a part of Alexander's meal. He was said to have been ill for a long time before his death at home.
