Visitation for family and friends of Viola Schafer of Grass Valley will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary. Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Grass Valley.
Mrs. Schafer died Sunday, March 27, in Grass Valley. She was 85.
She was born Jan. 24, 1920, in Lodi, to Isaac and Emma Reiswig. She graduated from high school and married Birt Schafer on Aug. 17, 1935, in Lodi. She worked for CTB - McGraw-Hill in Monterey. She enjoyed her family, crocheting and soap operas. She was an avid 49er fan.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Judy and Richard White of Lovelock, Nev., and Jean and Harold Hudspeth of Lincoln; brother and sister-in-law, Isaac and Mona Lee Reiswig of Nevada City; sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Lloyd Smith of Lodi; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law Dianna and Scott McDonell, and Debra and Eugene Johnson; great-grandchildren Eugene Johnson II, Cayla McDonell, Rosa Johnson, Carole Johnson, and Gregory Johnson; friend, Ed Golly of Grass Valley; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Birt Schafer in 1992; and great-grandchild, Richard Johnson.
