Maurice "Morris" L. Stephan, 74, of Patapsco, died Saturday morning, July 15, 2000, at his home, from a heart attack.

Born March 18, 1926, he was the son of the late Albert D. and Anna Belle Martin Stephan. He was the husband of Vivian I. Sykes Stephan, his wife of 55 years.

During World War II, he served in the Philippines in the Navy. He owned and operated Stephan's Body Works in Patapsco. Before and after owning his own business, he managed a number of automobile body shops in the area, some of which were Jamison and Barnsley, Richardson Body Shop, Westminster Motors and Arcadia Garage.

He was a member of Patapsco United Methodist Church, the American Legion Carroll Post 31, VFW Molleville Farm Post 467, and Westminster Moose 1381. He enjoyed gardening. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters B. Ann Cleary of Hampstead, Marcelene L. Miller of Silver Run, and Cheryl "Bootsie" Stonesifer of Westminster; four grandchildren; one step=grandson; one great-granddaughter; and two step-great-granddaughters.

He was predeceased by brothers William, Charles, Paul, Harry, Richard, and George Stephan; and sisters Mary Pickett and Virginia Gesell.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, with the Rev. Richard Shamer officiating. Interment will be in Patapsco United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
