A. Ralph Springer, 88, of Eureka, formerly of Hopedale, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Eureka.

He was born May 24, 1926, in Minier to Aaron J. and Naomi M. Atkins Springer. He married Clarabell Garber on March 4, 1950, in Hopedale, and she survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Mike (Jan) Springer of Iowa City, Iowa, and Ted (and significant other, Kate Hodges) Springer of Tucson, Ariz.; three daughters, Jan (Don) Rheinheimer of Lombard, Pat (Ron) Shoemaker of Goshen, Ind., and Peggy (Ian) Reese of Pasadena, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Wendy, Aaron, Ben, Lindsay, Jesse, Philip and Peter; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Smucker of Goshen, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bob Springer; and two sisters, Lela Stalter and Lola Speerly.

Ralph was a lifelong farmer in the Hopedale area.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He was a lifelong member of Hopedale Mennonite Church in Hopedale, where he served in numerous leadership positions. He was currently attending the Maple Lawn Fellowship in Eureka.

He particularly enjoyed metal- and woodworking in his shop and collecting arrowheads.

A family graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at Hopedale Mennonite Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Hopedale Mennonite Church. Pastor Kurt Walker will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, also at the church.

Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Hopedale is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Maple Lawn Homes in Eureka.
