Just who first lived in the area called Beulah is not known. The Mon Bryan family came there in 1869 and homesteaded a section of land. They may have been instrumental in building the Beulah church. The community was located between the crossroads at Shiloh Church and "Dude's Shack." The church and school were in separate buildings but stood side by side. Some of the teachers remembered were Mai Scott. Jennie Poland, Emmett Sneed, and Viola Shows.
A country store was operated by the Madden family. There was a gin, grist mill, sawmill and post office at Beulah, also, Postmasters were Lorenzo Hamner, Charlie W. Hamner, James C. Christian and a Mr. Stahl. Hezikiah Beard, who lived by the church and was Arnold Irvin's stepfather, operated the cotton gin for a number of years.
Other names associated with Beulah were Manning, Dodson, Cooper, Thrasher, Prothro, Towns, Thurmond and Walker. There were probably many others whose names are forgotten, who lived in and around the community.
