Alan (Al) E. Muenzel, Sr. of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, formerly of E. Amherst, New York, 80 years old, passed away on Aug. 18, 2009 in Sandy, Utah.Al was born in Buffalo, New York May 15, 1929 to Edgar Henry Muenzel and Ellen Lange Muenzel. He had two sisters, Mrs. Jeanne Lawson and Mrs. Marguerite Klingenmeier; and brother, Edgar H. Muenzel II. Al was employed as a skilled tradesman Die Sinker at the Chevrolet Forge Plant in Tonawanda, NY for 25 years. Al was in the Naval Reserve for a time and was also Treasurer of the Kenton Federal Credit Union for several years. He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Elizabeth (Thorn) Muenzel; step-grandchildren, Sean P. Galliher, Jr., Bryn Galliher, and Megan Galliher. Mr. Muenzel leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Mary Galliher Muenzel; sons, Dan A. Muenzel, Alan E. Muenzel, Jr., daughter Sandy Horan and step-children Paul K. Galliher, James M. Galliher, Thomas F. Galliher Sr, Sean P. Galliher, Sr, and Marilou Muscarella; 24 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. On his retirement from General Motors in 1984, Al and his wife Mary moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where they have been active members of St. Andrew Church and he has been a member of the Knights of Columbus and where they have made many dear and loving friends. Al will be greatly missed by his family as he has been a wonderful, loving, and caring husband, father, step-father, and grandfather. Memorial Funeral Mass was Friday, Aug. 21 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, East, Sandy, Utah.
