Sophia Bottle was christened 15 Jan 1843 at Charing, Kent, daughter of William and Charlotte Adkins Bottle of Charing, Kent. Sophia's father was born 1807 at Charing; his wife was born 1809. William and Charlotte Bottle were married 1830 in Charing.

Sophia's siblings were Mary 1830, Thomas, Wilson 1832, Elizabeth 1834, Charlotte 1837, Jane 1839, William 1841, Sarah 1848 and Ellen 1850.

Sophia married 15 September 1870 at Bradford, Yorkshire, Charles Chambers. Charles Chambers was the son of Edward and Mary Ann Burbridge Chambers. He was born 11 May 1843 and christened 11 June 1843 at Lenham, Kent.

Sophia's sister Sarah Bottle, married Charles' brother Stephen Chambers.

In 1871, Charles is 28, a carter, sophia is 28, living at 27 Lofthouse Street, Bradford, Yorkshire West Riding.

In 1881, Charles and Sophia were living at 87 Fitzwilliam Place, Bowlilng, Yorkshire. He is 37, general labourer, unemployed. Sophia is 38, Charlotte 8, Jane 6, Annie 4, Walter John 1 month.

In 1891, the family is at 101 Toronto Road, Chadwell St Mary, Essex. Daughter Charlotte is 19, married to Charles Baker, 24, general labourer. A son, Percy Edward was born to them that year. Sophis ia 44, Walter, born Bradford, Bertram, and Sarah born Tilbury, Essex.

In 1901, Charles is listed as a dock labourer, age 56, living at 24 Sydney Road, Tilbury, Essex. Sophia is 58, son Bertram is 17, a boiler sealer. Two boarders are listed: John Studd? 40 dock labourer, born Suffolk and John Worthington 27, born Lincolnshire.

In 1911 Charles and Sophia are still at Sydney Road. Daughter Sarah, now a widow, is living with them as well as Charles, Rose, and Percy Edward Baker, their grandchildren.

Sophia died 17 March 1917 at 24 Sydney Road, Chadwell St. Mary, of bronchitis. Her last words were "I'm coming Charlotte" referring to her daughter who had died 9 years earlier.

Charles died 20 October 1919 of "old age" at 77. He was living at the Orsett Lodge at the time of his death.
