Man Is Fatally Hurt
Under Wheels of Car
William H. Rutledge, 73, was fatally injured at 8:05 p.m. Wednesday, when he was run over by a car at the rear of his home at 932 North Grant. -
Officer Oren Sisco said Rut-ledge apparently was lying in the driveway when a car driven by Opel Hoffman,.. 55, of 805 North Concord, passed over his chest, inflicting severe internal injuries.
Mrs. Hoffman had been vis-'iting at the Rutledge home and was preparing to return to her own home when she started backing her car from the drive­way and toward the alley.

She said Rutledge Had left the house a short time before she did but she didn't realize he was
near her car. taken to Cox Me­dical Center, Rutledge died at, 9:45.p,m. The body was taken to' Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home. . •
•Rutledge, known as "Coffee, Jr.," according to his brother, Floyd (Goo-Goo) Rutledge, a ra­dio and tv entertainer, was a cab driver in his younger years. His father, Jim Rutledge, sr started the first auto cab com­pany in Springfield alter having driven horse-drawn hacks for Pickwick Stables in the city. * * *
.Mr, Rutledge, a member of Central Assembly of God Church, is survived-by his wife, Eula; five sons, Ray, of 200 North Jefferson, William Daniel, of 742 South, Douglas, Gene, of 504 North' Patterson, Charles R. of 942 North Grant, and Jack L of Seattle, Wash.; his brother Floyd 1733 Nichols; one sister, Mrs. "G. W." Lawyer, of 1733 Nichols, and 14 grandchildren.
Springfield police said the death will not be counted as a
traffic fatality.
