Carlos Curtis Day, b. Jun. 14, 1809 in Durham, Greene County, NY. and d. Aug. 13, 1883 in Avon, Hartford County, CT. &
Lavilla Woodruff, b. Apr. 7, 1813 in West Avon, Hartford County, CT. and d. Aug. 26, 1907 in Lawrenceville, Tioga County, PA.

On Jan. 1, 1867, 23 yr. old Julia Lavilla Day and 26 yr. old Dr. Lewis Darling were married at West Avon, Hartford county, CT.

Julia and Lewis Darling's three sons were:
1. Arland Lewis Darling, M.D., b. June 22, 1870 in Lawrenceville, Pa. and baptized in 1872 at St. John's Protestant Episcopal Church in Lawrenceville, Tioga, Pa.
2. Carlos Parsons Darling, b. May 8, 1876 and baptized July 22, 1883 at St. John's Protestant Episcopal Church in Lawrenceville, Tioga, Pa. Carlos was named after Julia's father, Carlos Curtiss Day. Carlos never married.
3. Walter William Darling, b. March 20, 1880 in Lawrenceville, Pa. and baptized July 22, 1883, with Carlos, at St. John's Protestant Episcopal Church in Lawrenceville, Tioga, Pa.

Mrs. Darling since 1899 has had under her care not only her own children, but her only niece, Dorothy Scofield Day, born in Brooklyn, N.Y., June 23, 1893, only child of William Doty Day and his wife, Edith Rose (Scofield) Day, the latter of whom died in Brooklyn, N.Y., Feb. 27, 1899. The daughter, Dorothy S. Day, came to Lawrenceville to live, in May, 1899 and has made her home here ever since. She graduated from the Lawrenceville high school, the Elmira (N.Y.) Academy, and is now a sophomore at Wellesley College, Wellesley, MA. William Doty Day, brother of Mrs. Darling, was a druggist in Brooklyn, N.Y. for thirty-five years, but after the death of his wife, he sold out the business there and now makes his home at the Darling homestead in Lawrenceville, PA., although he is presently managing the drug store belonging to Mrs. J. Eppes Wells, of Tioga, PA.

Julia and Lewis had three grandsons (all sons of Lewis Arland & Rue Bowman Linsley):
1. Lewis Arland "Lew" Darling, born September 15, 1898, in Lawrenceville. He was marr. by Rev. Van Waters, in Wel1sboro, PA., Jan. 18, 1925, to Marguerite Van Valkenburgh Ryan. She was born in Wellsboro, Jun. 16, 1893, the only daughter of Frank Weldon Ryan, who d. Apr. 6, 1923, aged 49 years, and his wife, Harriet (Van Valkenburgh) Ryan, of Lawrenceville. Lewis A. Darling was then in the employment of the State Highway Department, of PA.
2. Carlos Mason, b. Dec. 12, 1899, in Lawrenceville; was in the Medical Corps, Students' Army Training Corps, at Hobart College, Geneva, NY. and d. in Rochester, NY., Dec.
21, 1918, aged nineteen years, nine days, and was buried in Corning, NY. His name is engraved on the Memorial Tablet for World War veterans at Corning, NY.
3. Waldo Pomeroy, b. Jan. 31, 1909, at Brookside Farm, Lawrenceville, PA. and d. Oct. 11, 1971 in Conklin, Broome, NY. He marr. Charlotte Lucille Rose.

Lawrenceville, Pa., Jan. 3 - Dr. and Mrs. Lewis Darling and Mr. and Mrs. Walter W. Darling celebrated, respectively, their 45th and second wedding anniversaries at their home in this place on New Year's Day. The out-of-town guests were the Rev. and Mrs. J. A. Ryan of Hammondsport, N. Y., and Miss Alice Perkins of Williamsport. The entire Darling family of this town were present.

Mrs. Lewis Darling, Sr., of Lawrenceville, celebrated her 84th birthday Aug. 5 by a family party composed of her three sons, Dr. Arland L. Darling, of Corning; Carlos P. Darling and Walter W. Darling, both of Lawrenceville; Mrs. A.L. Darling of Corning, and Mrs. W.W. Darling, of Lawrenceville. Her husband, Dr. Lewis Darling, died Oct. 20, 1916, aged 76 years.

Mrs. Darling Summoned At Lawrenceville
Lawrenceville, Dec. 24 - Mrs. Lewis Darling, sr., one of the oldest and most esteemed residents of this place, died at her home here Monday at 5 p. m. She had been a resident of Lawrenceville 63 years.
Mrs. Darling was born in West Avon, Conn., Aug. 5, 1843, the only daughter of Carlos C. and Lavilla Woodruff Day, being descended from many of the Colonial families of New England. She attended the West Avon and Cromwell, Conn., schools.
On Jan. 1, 1867, she became the bride of Dr. Lewis Darling at West Avon and they came here to make their home. Dr. Darling died Oct. 20, 1916, at the age of 76. Since his death, Mrs. Darling had made her home with her sons in Lawrenceville. She was a devout communicant of St. John's Episcopal Church.
She is survived by three sons, Dr. Orland (Arland) L. Darling, Corning; Carlos Parsons and Walter William Darling, both of Lawrenceville; two grandsons, Lewis A. of Dover, N. J. and Waldo Pomeroy Darling, Corning. The funeral will be held at the Darling home on Main Street Thursday at 2 p. m. Interment will be in Powers Cemetery, here.

Descended from an early Colonial family of Connecticut and Massachusetts, and sixty-three years a distinguished resident of Tioga County, Mrs. Julia L. Day Darling, widow of Dr. Lewis Darling, died (Monday afternoon at 5 / 5:15 p.m.) at her home in Lawrenceville last Monday at the age of 86 years, four months and eighteen days.
She was born in West Avon, (Hartford Co.) Connecticut, August 5, 1843, the only daughter of Carlos C. and Lavilla Woodruff Day and was descended from many of the earliest Colonial families of Connecticut and Massachusetts.
She attended the schools at Avon, Conn., and a private school at Crowell, Conn., and later (in the fall of 1860) entered Hartford (Female) Seminary (studying more or less until the summer of 1864, but did not graduate owing to troublesome eyes), where she was a friend and classmate of Emelyn G. Darling, of Lawrenceville, whose brother she afterward married.
Julia Lavilla Day and Dr. Lewis Darling Jr. were married in West Avon, Conn., January 1, 1867, and came to Lawrenceville to reside. Dr. Darling died (at his home) October 20, 1916, aged 76 years.
Mrs. Darling was a communicant of St. John's Episcopal church, she with her husband and his father, Dr. Lewis Darling Sr., having been confirmed in the Episcopalian faith in September, 1868.
Intelligent and alert mentally, Mrs. Darling was a charming hostess and an interesting conversationalist. Her influence created a splendid home for her children and was for many years a rendezvous of personages from all over the East.
Three children were born to Dr. and Mrs. Darling.
Dr. Arland Lewis Darling of Corning, N.Y.; Carlos Parsons Darling and Walter William Darling of Lawrenceville, with whom Mrs. Darling made her home.
The funeral was held Dec. 26 at her late home (on Main Street, Lawrenceville), at 2 p.m.; interment in the (family plot in Powers cemetery), Lawrenceville. Rev. Mr. Schmaus, rector of St. John's church and Rev. H.H. Gillies of Mansfield officiated.

Of a retiring nature, Mrs. Darling devoted her life interests to her home where, in her early years, she did much entertaining.

Her father, Carlos C. Day, is buried in the ancient burying ground of the Center Church, Hartford, Conn.
